Why Dressing Well Has Quietly Become an Act of Rebellion

I’m writing this because of a conversation that has stayed with me.
We were discussing something simple: how rarely people dress well now. Not in the sense of obvious mistakes, but in the absence of intention. Clothing has, for many, become functional. Something to put on, rather than something to consider.
A suit has shifted in meaning. It is no longer a default, but a requirement. Worn when necessary, removed as soon as possible. Outside of that, the standard has moved towards comfort, ease, and, increasingly, indifference.
This is not accidental.
Modern life has been optimised for speed and convenience. In that process, many small rituals that once carried meaning have been removed. Dressing is one of them.
At some point in that conversation, we arrived at a shared observation. Choosing to dress well today, with intention, feels almost out of place.
Which is precisely why it stands out.
It is not about formality. It is not about adhering to outdated standards. It is about deciding, consciously, how one presents themselves.
And in the current climate, that decision carries more weight than it once did.
Stay well dressed,
Your Tailor
