Why True Elegance Is Rarely Obvious

I’m writing this because there is a common misconception around what it means to be well dressed.
Attention is often mistaken for success. Bold choices, visible details, elements designed to stand out. While these can be effective, they are not what creates consistency.
The most well dressed individuals tend to operate differently.
There is no obvious focal point. Nothing competing for attention. Instead, everything works quietly together. Proportion, colour, and texture are aligned in a way that feels natural rather than constructed.
You don’t notice the clothing first.
You notice the absence of distraction.
That is where refinement sits. Not in individual pieces, but in how everything integrates.
It requires restraint more than expression.
And it is precisely this restraint that makes it so effective.
